Room2 Belfast, a design-led aparthotel, celebrated its first birthday this month and invited us over to join in the celebrations. With locations in Hammersmith and Chiswick, London as well as Southampton, the Room2 collection of “hometels” offers thoughtfully-designed living spaces and unique experiences with a serious commitment to zero waste leading the way with more greener stays.
Luigi and Graeme from Checkin Apartments travelled over to the capital of Northern Ireland to experience its first hometel in the city and enjoyed a great stay, courtesy of the Room2 team.
The group kicked off the tour with a lunch at EDO, a charming Spanish restaurant nearby, followed by a whiskey tasting tour at McConnell’s Irish Whiskey Distillery, located in the refurbished A-wing of an old prison, before letting their hair down at the evening party in the lobby with some great live music (available every day 6-8pm).
In terms of location, Room2 Belfast is very central, set around the corner from city hall with lots of pubs and restaurants in the area. It is a 40 minute drive from Belfast International Airport and only 15 minute drive from Belfast city airport. Belfast Grand Central Station is only 10 minute walk away.
The property offers 175 apartments to choose from – studios and open plan one bedroom units – for short or extended stays, fully equipped with self-catering facilities and home comforts.
Luigi and Graeme stayed in the Large Loft room, a studio with a good-sized king bed, a comfy lounge space with a dining table, smart TV, kitchenette with appliances and a small upper level with a double bed (perfect for accompanying children).
They also had a look around the Suite and the Studio apartments.
There are fantastic on-site facilities like a 24 hour reception, a gym, laundry room for guests, conference space and meeting rooms (for up to 120 people) and an art gallery showcasing beautiful works from local artists.
For food and drink, enjoy a cocktail at the trendy bar or sit down at Winnie’s for a delicious meal. If you fancy a brew, head to Rosie Lee’s Tea Room for a curated selection of teas or an delightful afternoon tea experience.
Celebrating local talent and design is evident in every corner featuring hand-painted murals by Irish artists like Jamie Beart, Rebecca O’doherty and Alana Mcdowell, handmade linen lampshades locally made by Linen Lane, custom ceramic light fixtures by Northern Irish lighting company, Mullan.
Sustainability is a big focus here, as it is across other Room2 properties, with a zero waste policy in action resulting in nothing ending up in landfill. There is no single-use plastic and all waste is responsibly recycled or turned into energy.
The welcome desk has been crafted by start-up brand Spared® entirely from old unused soap bottles and the carpets are made from recycled fishing nets. Dodds & Shute, a certified B Corp company, have supplied 90% of the furniture within room2 Belfast including bespoke sofas, headboards and tables.
The building is fully powered by electricity, using no natural gas. Solar panels on the roof help supplement the energy requirements.
